Human rights lawyer and political activist Deji Adeyanju stated on Friday that President Bola Tinubu is positioned to defeat the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027.

Adeyanju explained that the incumbent president maintains a widespread geographical advantage that will allow him to secure the mandatory 25 percent vote threshold across every state in the federation, including key battlegrounds such as Adamawa, Anambra, Kano, and Oyo States.

In a public statement shared via his verified X account, the legal practitioner asserted that no opposition candidate currently possesses the political structure required to replicate such broad national spread.

I see Tinubu defeating Atiku in January because of many reasons but let me highlight only one today. Tinubu will get 25% votes in every state in Nigeria including Adamawa, Anambra, Kano and Oyo. No other candidate can pull such numbers. Read this carefully again, Adeyanju stated.

It’s only northern Nigeria we should be expecting miracle from. And they have the capacity to do so, he added.

As preparations for the 2027 presidential contest intensify, Tinubu is expected to face a competitive field featuring Atiku, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, alongside other political contenders.

Following the official commencement of political campaigns, Atiku has consistently criticized the core economic reforms of the incumbent administration, particularly focusing his opposition on the removal of the petrol subsidy.
