Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has taken a swipe at the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, declaring that the former Anambra State governor is only positioned to win an election held on social media.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ town hall meeting held in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State on Saturday, Wike stated humorously that he would gladly cast his ballot for Obi if the presidency were decided purely by online popularity, while maintaining that the opposition candidate lacks what it takes to manage the affairs of Nigeria.

Truly speaking, I give Obi president of social media. If you were voting for the president of social media, I would vote for him, Wike remarked.

The minister further characterized Obi as a tightfisted politician, arguing that the nation’s fragile economy cannot be handed over to such leadership.

Wike, who is playing a leading role in spearheading the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign machinery across Abuja and Rivers State, has maintained a consistent posture of political opposition toward Obi and other rival contenders.

He also reiterated his strong conviction that incumbent President Bola Tinubu will secure victory in the upcoming January 16 election, dismissing the electoral prospects of the opposition.
