Registered voters across Nigeria can now verify their details on the preliminary voter register for the upcoming 2027 general elections via the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) official digital portal.
The online verification system allows citizens to inspect their registration records, confirm their polling unit details, and review listed names and photographs ahead of the formal publication of the finalized register.
Below is a step-by-step guide on how to check your details on the INEC voters register online:
Step 1: Access the INEC Register Portal
Navigate directly to INEC Preliminary Voter Register Portal, which serves as the official platform for public inspection of the preliminary voter database.
Step 2: Sign In to Your Account
Complete the user sign-in process on the homepage using your credentials or registered account details as prompted on the screen.
Step 3: Select Your Polling Unit
Once logged in, select your state, local government area (LGA), political ward, and specific polling unit. Alternatively, you can search directly by entering your unique Polling Unit (PU) Code.
Step 4: Verify Your Details and Photograph
The platform displays the complete list of registered voters assigned to the selected polling unit, including photographs and full names. Users can utilize alphabetical filter tabs to jump directly to surnames starting with specific letters to confirm accuracy.
Step 5: Understand Portal Limitations and Data Caps
The portal is dedicated solely to verifying existing records on the preliminary register. It cannot be used to perform new voter registrations, request transfer of polling units, or apply for Permanent Voter Card (PVC) replacements. To prevent automated scraping and data misuse, INEC enforces view caps per user account.
What Happens Next?
INEC is currently processing submitted claims and objections arising from the public display exercise. Following the cleanup and verification phase, the commission is scheduled to certify and release the official final register of voters on December 15, 2026.
