The Senate on Wednesday ratified the nomination of Abdullahi Saidu as Executive Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), along with 17 other appointees designated for the governing boards of the FRC and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
The legislative approvals were granted during plenary following the consideration and adoption of separate screening reports submitted by the Senate Committee on Finance and the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.
Lere Oyewunmi, Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, presented the findings on the FRC candidates, explaining that the panel thoroughly evaluated the nominees’ background credentials, academic qualifications, and professional records before recommending their confirmation.
Delivering the second assessment, Adeniyi Adegbonmire, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, outlined the panel’s recommendations concerning the governing council nominees for the NHRC.
He noted that the nominations were officially committed to the panel on April 28, 2026, with the physical screening exercise conducted on Tuesday.
