The Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)-led organised labour have successfully concluded a major pact encompassing eight key resolutions centered on transport relief, unsettled allowances, minimum wage talks, tax considerations, and general staff welfare.
The newly brokered terms establish clear schedules for clearing backlog entitlements, verifying pending allowances, and conducting subsequent evaluations on workers’ welfare.
The eight core agreements adopted by both sides include:
Transport Intervention
The Federal Government consented to disburse a monthly commuting subsidy of ₦70,000 spanning six months, kicking off in November 2026.
Peculiar Allowance Arrears
Unpaid peculiar allowance backlogs are scheduled for liquidation across three equal monthly tranches, commencing in November 2026.
Health Workers’ Arrears
Authorities committed to liquidating 19 months of accumulated allowances owed to medical personnel within a three-month window starting December 2026.
Minimum Wage Renegotiations
A dedicated negotiating panel is set to be established and begin operations immediately, though the exact commencement date for implementing the wage structure remains contested.
Agricultural Officers’ Hazard Allowance
The administrative verification for hazard perks due to agricultural staff is projected to wrap up within a fortnight.
CONHESS Cost Implications
Financial projections for the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) are slated for updating inside a three-week timeframe.
Tax Relief
Matters concerning worker tax concessions were forwarded to the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NLC for extended deliberation.
Review Of Implementation
Both government delegates and labour representatives committed to holding a follow-up session in thirty days to monitor execution progress on all pacts.
This upcoming meeting will serve as a platform for both factions to evaluate adherence to established schedules and resolve any remaining bottlenecks.
