The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has broken his silence regarding the violent assault he suffered in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, revealing that he was brutally beaten by armed assailants.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Sowore recounted how a group of thugs launched a sudden attack on him and his supporters in broad daylight.

He explained that the incident occurred at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti where he had gathered to hold a political meeting with his regional supporters.

“They beat me like a criminal. They came from nowhere, about 20 of them, armed with sticks and bottles. They said they will kill me if I come to Ekiti again,” Sowore said.

The political activist asserted that the violent encounter was captured by security cameras on the premises, but alleged that the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) intercepted the CCTV footage to conceal the identities of the perpetrators.

Sowore confirmed that he suffered visible physical injuries to his face and body during the melee, requiring urgent medical care at a hospital facility.

He accused the Ekiti State Government of orchestrating the physical assault to intimidate opposition politicians in the state, an allegation the state administration has yet to formally address.

Maintaining a defiant stance, the AAC flagbearer declared that physical violence will not deter his political movement or silence his advocacy for good governance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I am not afraid. They can beat me, they can arrest me, but they cannot stop me from speaking the truth,” he added.

The physical attack on the politician has triggered widespread outrage across digital platforms, with civil rights groups and citizens demanding a full criminal investigation and the immediate arrest of the culprits.
