Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has revealed that the wife of former governor Peter Obi serves as the godmother to one of his children, addressing earlier public speculation regarding the personal ties between their families.
Soludo also disclosed that his wife, Nonye, acts as the confirmation godmother to Obi’s daughter, offering clear insight into the long-standing domestic bond that recently sparked public interest.
The governor made these statements during an interview with BBC News Igbo on Monday, emphasizing that he and Obi remain close personal friends and that their respective families maintain cordial relations despite active political rivalries.
“Peter Obi and I are good friends. Our two families are on good terms. His wife was the godmother of my child at baptism, and my wife was the godmother of his child at confirmation,” Soludo stated.
Explaining the root of their public friction, the governor noted that their disagreements stem strictly from differing political visions regarding leadership choices for Anambra State.
He added that he harbors no ill will against Obi over past electoral battles or political endorsements within the state.
“I have a different vision of who should be governor of Anambra State. I am contesting, and he supported whoever he felt should be governor. I prevailed by the grace of God, and I don’t hold it against him,” the governor added.
