The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially commenced the disbursement of a ₦50,000 monthly cash relief package to selected low-income and vulnerable citizens under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI).
Formally launched on October 30, 2026, by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, the initiative provides direct financial support to qualifying households affected by inflationary trends and economic challenges.
To guarantee rapid and transparent disbursements, the ministry is partnering with accredited digital financial institutions, including OPay, to enable pre-selected beneficiaries to confirm their selection and claim their funds seamlessly.
For citizens holding OPay accounts, the verification and acceptance process can be completed via USSD or through the mobile banking application.
How To Check Your Eligibility Through OPay
1. Via USSD Code: Open your mobile phone dialer and enter *955*20# using the phone number registered to your OPay account.
2. Follow On-Screen Prompts: Select the designated option to check your eligibility status under the NERSI program and proceed with the confirmation instructions.
3. Via OPay App: Alternatively, open and log into your OPay mobile application, then check the home screen for an official notification confirming your selection.
4. Provide Authorization: If shortlisted, follow the prompts to grant your consent and complete the claims process.
5. Receive Cash Credit: Upon successful verification, the ₦50,000 grant will be credited directly to your designated OPay wallet balance.
Eligibility Requirements For The ₦50,000 NERSI Grant
According to guidelines established by the Federal Government, beneficiaries are systematically drawn from verified national identity records and the National Social Register.
The targeted intervention spans poor and vulnerable households across all six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
Government authorities clarified that individuals cannot apply directly or pay third-party agents to gain entry to the beneficiary list, as selection relies entirely on pre-verified database records.
Additionally, payouts are structured in rollout phases, meaning eligible recipients may receive their SMS alerts or app notifications at different times during the campaign.
Is The ₦50,000 Grant Completely Free?
The Federal Government emphasized that the ₦50,000 NERSI support is a non-repayable government grant and involves zero registration, processing, or activation charges.
Account holders are strongly warned against fraudulent entities or individuals requesting money, personal banking details, One-Time Passwords (OTPs), or ATM PINs to facilitate payment approval.
