MTN subscribers selected for the Federal Government’s ₦50,000 monthly cash relief package can check their eligibility status and authorize payment through the MoMo Payment Service Bank (MoMo PSB) USSD code platform.
The digital verification system allows beneficiaries to access the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), a social welfare program initiated to cushion vulnerable Nigerian households against severe cost-of-living pressures.
The official access instructions follow warnings regarding fake viral messages on social media instructing MTN users to text “YES” to unverified numbers or click fraudulent links to reverse “NOT ELIGIBLE” statuses within 24 hours.
MTN Nigeria Support issued an official disclaimer cautioning subscribers against falling for scam messages circulating online.
“Please be informed that the information shared is not from MTN. Kindly disregard the message and do not click on any unverified links, share personal information, OTPs, PINs, passwords, or make any payments based on such messages,” MTN Support warned.
Federal authorities confirmed that target recipients are pre-selected from the National Social Register and verified national identity databases, with disbursements handled through five accredited channels: MoMo PSB, ALAT by Wema, NairaGram, OPay, and Moniepoint.
Step-By-Step Guide For MTN Users To Access The ₦50,000 Grant
1. Dial the official USSD shortcode: MTN subscribers should dial *671*0# using the mobile line registered with their National Identification Number (NIN) and follow the menu prompts to check eligibility.
2. Authorize consent upon selection: Selected beneficiaries who receive an official SMS or prompt must follow the instructions or dial *671*0# to accept the grant offer.
3. Respond to genuine network pop-ups: If an authentic MoMo notification appears on your device screen requesting confirmation to receive the support, select the designated option to provide consent.
4. Activate a MoMo wallet: Recipients without an active MoMo wallet can register immediately by dialing *671# or downloading the official MoMo NG mobile application.
5. Withdraw or transfer funds: Once the ₦50,000 grant is deposited into the wallet, beneficiaries can cash out through a MoMo agent, spend via USSD/app channels, or transfer the balance to an external bank account.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, confirmed that authorized providers send direct SMS messages to shortlisted citizens to request formal consent prior to releasing funds.
“Beneficiaries will receive an SMS from one of these providers asking for their consent. This message is genuine. Once consent is given, payment is made directly to the beneficiary’s account/mobile wallet,” Doro stated.
The ministry reiterated that the NERSI intervention involves no public application portal, registration fees, or third-party agents, warning citizens never to disclose sensitive financial credentials such as PINs or Bank Verification Numbers (BVN).
Citizens whose current status displays “NOT SELECTED” are advised that payments are being executed in structured batches across multiple phases, meaning future rollouts may capture unaccredited households.
For inquiries or issues, beneficiaries can reach the official NERSI helpline at 0700-022-2222 or MoMo PSB customer support by dialing 671.
