The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has provided a detailed guide on how candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions can verify approved O’Level and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) subject requirements for their chosen courses.

The board cautioned candidates to confirm their subject combinations before selecting courses or requesting change-of-course applications, warning that high UTME scores and strong O’Level grades do not guarantee admission if subject requirements are mismatched.

In an advisory published on Friday via its JAMB Explained series on X (formerly Twitter), the exam body emphasized that higher institutions establish distinct prerequisite combinations for each academic program.

“Do you know that your subject combination might be the reason you don’t get admitted? You can have good scores in the UTME and O-Level results and still not be eligible for admission,” JAMB warned.

To prevent admission disqualifications, the board urged candidates to access its Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS) portal at www.ibass.jamb.gov.ng to review institution-specific requirements.

Step-by-Step Guide To Checking Course Requirements On JAMB IBASS

1. Access the IBASS portal: Open your web browser and navigate to the official website at www.ibass.jamb.gov.ng, then click on the “Brochure” tab.

2. Filter by institution type: Select the option to view institutions and utilize the category filter to locate your preferred university, polytechnic, monotechnic, or college of education.

3. Select your preferred course: Browse the list of offered programs under the selected institution, choose your intended course of study, and click the “View Details” button.

4. Review subject requirements: Carefully examine the displayed criteria, which outline mandatory O’Level subjects, acceptable grade thresholds, and the exact UTME subject combinations required for direct entry or UTME candidates.

JAMB advised applicants to cross-check their registered UTME subjects and sitting O’Level results against the institutional brochure prior to final registration deadlines to eliminate preventable eligibility disqualifications.
