The Plateau State government has declared Wednesday, October 9, a work-free day to encourage citizens to take part in the local government elections taking place on that day.
This announcement was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Samuel Jatau, in a statement issued on Monday.

Jatau stated that the purpose of the work-free day is to facilitate public servants’ travel to their local government areas and to ensure that voters have the opportunity to cast their ballots.
“His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mannaseh Mutfwang, has declared Tuesday, October 8, 2024, as a half-day working day to allow public servants to travel to their local government areas in preparation for the chairmanship and councillorship elections. Similarly, Wednesday, October 9, has been declared a work-free day,” the statement read.
The governor encouraged citizens to maintain peaceful conduct during the elections and urged registered voters to turn out in significant numbers to fulfill their civic duty.
