Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former presidential spokesperson, has stated that Nigerians criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s two-week holiday in the United Kingdom are misinformed.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos, Okupe addressed the backlash regarding the President’s decision to vacation abroad instead of remaining in the country.

The former Director-General of Peter Obi’s Presidential Campaign said: “I have read many uninformed criticisms of the President’s holiday trip abroad.
“Personally, from my understanding of how Presidents behave in periods of national crisis, I believe the President has willfully separated himself from officials, friends and associates to reflect and review the last 17 months and chart a new way forward for his administration.
“At the same time, it is to carefully avoid undue interference from political associates, in his thought process to rejig his cabinet.
“Staying anywhere in Nigeria definitely will not afford him such a peaceful and serene atmosphere to achieve his objective,”
He expressed his belief that the President’s return from “this retreat” would bring positive developments for the Nigerian people, providing much-needed relief for the masses.
Tinubu left Abuja on October 2 for a two-week vacation in the United Kingdom. According to a statement from Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President for Information and Strategy, the President plans to use this time as a working vacation to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms.
This marks the first time President Tinubu has taken leave since taking office in May 2023, although he has undertaken several foreign trips during that period.
Tinubu Appoints New SSA
Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has approved the appointment of Alfred Abah as Senior Special Assistant on Civil Service Matters.
In a statement by Eno Olotu, Director of Press at the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, it was noted that Abah is a retired director of the Federal Civil Service.
The Head of Service, Didi Walson-Jack, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the appointment, describing it as a historic milestone, as it marks the first time such a position has been established within the Nigerian Civil Service.

The statement read, “She emphasized that this strategic decision reflects the administration’s commitment to advancing ongoing reform efforts aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Civil Service.
“Mr. Alfred Abah, an accomplished administrator and a retired Director of the Federal Civil Service, brings with him a wealth of experience, deep expertise, and a solid reputation for integrity and professionalism. With over three decades of dedicated service in various key roles across the public sector, his track record speaks to his capability in driving reforms and fostering organisational excellence.
“The HCSF noted that, under the leadership of President Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda, the Nigerian Civil Service has witnessed transformative progress. These reforms have boosted the confidence of the Nigerian people in the government’s dedication to good governance and public service excellence.”
