Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. Fulani Kwajafa, also the Sarkin Yakin Biu, has passed away.
Kwajafa died on October 23, 2024, at the age of 88 after a brief illness. His death was confirmed by a family member, who shared that he is survived by his wife, Patience Kwajafa, along with many children and grandchildren, including Nuhu Fulani Kwajafa, the Director General of the Global Initiative for Peace, Love and Care (GIPLC).
Born on December 22, 1936, in Kwajafa Village, Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State, Kwajafa began his education locally, completing junior primary school in 1953.
In 1954, he joined the Nigeria Police Force as a constable (Dan Sanda), embarking on a distinguished career characterized by determination and service.

Kwajafa’s commitment and expertise quickly drew attention, leading to his selection by the Colonial Police Administration for further training at Mayflower College in London, UK.
This advanced education helped him rise through the ranks, eventually reaching the position of Commissioner of Police in 1984—a significant achievement that distinguished him among his peers.
A respected figure in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Kwajafa was known for his skill in solving high-profile cases, earning multiple awards, including the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR). In 1991, he became Chairman and CEO of NDLEA, where he was instrumental in combatting drug trafficking and organized crime in Nigeria.
In 1992, Kwajafa chaired the Financial Investigation Work Group at the 14th Meeting of Heads of National Drug Enforcement Agencies (HONLEA) in Abuja, and later attended the Interpol Africa Workshop in Abuja. That year, he also served as Vice Chairman at the 35th Session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) in Vienna.
In 1993, Kwajafa made history as the first African to be appointed Chairman of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (36th Session) in Vienna.
His groundbreaking career profoundly shaped Nigeria’s law enforcement landscape, leaving an enduring legacy of courage, integrity, and dedication to justice.
