The Presidency has dismissed claims that the Tinubu administration is showing favoritism toward the South-West in its security sector appointments.
This controversy arose after the recent appointment of Major General Olufemi Oluyede as Acting Chief of Army Staff, filling in for General Taoreed Lagbaja, who is undergoing medical treatment abroad.
Critics on social media accused President Bola Tinubu of promoting “Yorubanisation,” suggesting a bias toward the Yoruba ethnic group from the South-West.

Some Nigerians argued that equally qualified officers from other regions could have temporarily filled the position.
In response, Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Public Communications and Orientation, shared a detailed breakdown of security appointments under the Tinubu administration.
According to Dare, the North-West leads with eight security appointments, followed by the South-West with five, the North-Central with four, and the North-East with three. Meanwhile, the South-South and South-East have one appointee each.
“Facts do not lie. Below we see laid bare the facts about the regional outlook of President Tinubu’s appointments within 20 security agencies. The label of him favouring Yorubas in the Security set up does not fit. Nigeria we hail thee!,” Dare wrote.
