Ndume’s Kinsmen React To Plot To Recall Him From Senate Over His Position On Tax Reform Bill

Kinsmen of Senator Mohammed Ndume, under the banner of the Southern Borno Concerned Citizens (SBCC), have expressed their support for him in response to a recall threat issued by a group called the Northern Redemption Coalition (NRC).

The NRC’s recall effort, they claim, is driven by Ndume’s opposition to the Tax Reform Bills currently under consideration in the National Assembly.

These bills have faced strong resistance from Northern leaders, including the Northern Governors Forum (NGF), youth organizations, and other stakeholders, who argue that the bills would exacerbate the economic challenges facing the North.

The SBCC, led by National Chairman Comrade Bulama Ali Sawa, has endorsed Ndume’s position, emphasizing that his actions are in the best interest of his constituents’ welfare.

“Calling on Southern Borno to recall their committed senator, who tirelessly defends the masses’ interests across Nigeria, is unfortunate and baseless,” Sawa stated, highlighting that the NRC lacks legitimacy and is represented by an unidentified “president” named Adamu Bashir.

“Senator Ndume’s comments on national television accurately reflect the sentiments of his constituents, who recognize the severe risks these tax bills pose,” he said.

The senator from southern Borno had previously been sanctioned by his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), due to his criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which resulted in his removal as the Senate’s Chief Whip. He subsequently issued a public apology to the party.
