Although her death has not been officially confirmed, sources told Daily Trust that she died at an undisclosed hospital in Abuja, where she had been receiving treatment following the incident.
On December 5, gunmen on motorcycles, suspected to be kidnappers, attacked the convoy of the governor’s mother, Jummai Kefas, along the Wukari-Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area, Taraba State.
A police escort in the convoy attempted to shoot at the assailants as they tried to block the vehicle carrying the governor’s mother. However, a stray bullet accidentally struck Atsi, 44, who was seated next to her mother.
Atsi was initially taken to the Teaching Hospital in Wukari, but later flown to Abuja for further medical care. A source close to the Taraba State Government confirmed her death on Tuesday.
