Police Arrest Nine Suspects Involved In Anambra Lawmaker’s Murder

The Anambra State Police Command announced the arrest of nine suspects in connection with the murder of Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly.

This was confirmed by the State’s Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, during a press briefing on Friday.

Azuka, who represented Onitsha North Constituency 1, was abducted on December 24, 2024, in Onitsha, and his decomposing body was discovered on the 2nd Niger Bridge by a joint team of police and vigilante members.

Following the arrests, the police recovered two pump-action guns, and one suspect was injured during a gunfight with police officers.

The arrested suspects include Ugochukwu Onuorah (30), Ikemefuna Ossai (20), Ikenna Orugu (27), Chibuike Obiefuna (19), Chinonso Olisa (19), Chinedu Okoli (21), David Ojini (25), and Peter Sunday (20), the latter notably bearing a tattoo reading “No peace 4 d Government.”

The CP also reported the arrest of Chidiebere Nwosu, a kidnap suspect in Nnewi, and the neutralization of his gang members, who had previously attacked police personnel in October 2024.

Additionally, over 100 notorious criminals have been neutralized, and criminal camps in various locations in the state have been dismantled.

Itam expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, sister agencies, the media, residents, vigilante operatives, and civil society groups for their continued support.

He reassured the public that the police remain committed to protecting lives and property in the state.
