The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has hailed the late Justice Alagoa as a rare individual, free from arrogance and elitism.
Speaking during a valedictory court session in Abuja on Wednesday, held in honor of the late Supreme Court Justice, she described him as a brave and determined advocate for his principles.
The CJN encouraged everyone to strive to leave behind positive legacies that will be remembered fondly by others.

Although Justice Alagoa’s earthly journey has ended, she expressed joy that his legacy remains firmly imprinted in history, serving as an example for future generations to follow.
She emphasized that his passing reminds us all of the fleeting nature of life, urging us to leave behind legacies worthy of remembrance.
“Even in death, Alagoa’s legacy endures as a symbol of inspiration, wisdom, and unshakable integrity. His fatherly love, humility, and commitment to justice have left an unforgettable impact on all who knew him,” she said.
Justice Kekere-Ekun also noted that Alagoa was not only a towering figure in stature but also in legal expertise, with his judicial decisions marked by methodical reasoning and brilliance.
She encouraged his family to preserve and carry on the positive legacies he left behind.
Also speaking, the Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, described Alagoa as a steadfast and courageous jurist who demonstrated how law can be used to enhance governance and inspire societal reforms.
He acknowledged that while Alagoa’s time on the Supreme Court bench was short, it had a significant impact, with his contributions and bold statements continuing to generate national discussions in legal, political, and social circles.
Fagbemi also praised the CJN for organizing the special court session to honor the late Justice, who he said had served Nigeria diligently throughout the country.
The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Afam Osigwe, called on Nigerians to honor Justice Alagoa’s memory by upholding the values he cherished, such as justice, integrity, and the relentless pursuit of the rule of law.
Osigwe urged Nigerians to continue working toward the country’s development, following the high standards set by the late Justice.
Justice Alagoa, 70, from Ogbolamabiri Nembe in Bayelsa, was born on October 4, 1943, and passed away on December 5, 2024.
