APC Replies Tambuwal’s Comments On Defections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are defecting to support President Bola Tinubu’s bold economic reform agenda.

Felix Morka, the APC’s national publicity secretary, made this statement on Sunday in Abuja in response to criticisms from former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal.

Tambuwal had claimed that defections from the PDP were motivated by “stomach infrastructure,” arguing that no politician with integrity would join the APC.

In his reply, Morka suggested that Tambuwal’s comments actually reflected his own history of shifting between various political parties over the years.

Morka highlighted that Tambuwal had switched from the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) to the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) in 2007, returned to ANPP, then moved to the PDP, defected to the APC in 2014, and later returned to the PDP in 2018.

“There is wisdom in the saying that those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. That wisdom has clearly eluded Tambuwal, a notorious party defector.

“His comments more accurately reflect his own history of political migrations. His movements were driven by self-interest, not conscience,” Mr Morka stated.

According to Morka, a politician like Tambuwal has no moral authority to question the reasons behind the defections from the crisis-ridden PDP to the APC.

He argued that, contrary to Tambuwal’s assertions, PDP members were joining the APC due to Tinubu’s economic reforms and the increasing attractiveness of the party.

Morka pointed out that many defectors had cited Tinubu’s policies and the internal issues within the PDP as key factors in their decision.

He also noted that under Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria recently exceeded its OPEC quota of 1.5 million barrels per day.

“This achievement results from improved security and targeted oil sector reforms,” he explained.

He also mentioned that Nigeria had achieved consistent trade surpluses, a rise in Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs), a robust stock market, and stronger foreign reserves.

Morka advised Tambuwal and his supporters to take accountability for the PDP’s challenges rather than criticize those exercising their right to political affiliation.

He urged them to apologize to their party members and adopt a more humble and introspective approach moving forward.
