Edo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal Judgment Allegedly Leaks [PHOTOS]

Documents allegedly showing the judgment of the Edo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has leaked online.

This is coming hours before the the Edo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal delivers its verdict on Wednesday regarding the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, challenging the results of the September 21, 2024, governorship election.

Ighodalo and the PDP are contesting the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the election’s winner, citing alleged irregularities.

After hearing final arguments on March 3rd, the tribunal, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, reserved judgment.

The tribunal will rule on three petitions related to the election.

During the proceedings, the tribunal admitted 148 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines as evidence, which were used in the disputed election.

These machines were provided by an INEC technical officer at the petitioners’ request, specifically for 133 polling units where results were being contested.

INEC had announced Okpebholo (APC) as the winner with 291,667 votes, defeating Ighodalo (PDP), who received 247,655 votes.

The PDP and Ighodalo are seeking to have the election results nullified, claiming non-compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022.

The APC and Okpebholo have countered, urging the tribunal to dismiss the petitions, arguing that the PDP and Ighodalo have failed to provide sufficient evidence to support their claims.
