Reps Speaker Inaugurates 21-Man Committee To Oversee Rivers Assembly

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, is currently presiding over the inauguration of a temporary committee tasked with legislating in place of the suspended Rivers State House of Assembly.

The inauguration ceremony is taking place at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja and is being attended by designated members representing the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

Addressing the 21-member committee, Speaker Abbas emphasized that their mandate is non-partisan, urging them to legislate in a way that ensures good governance, peace, and prosperity for the oil-rich Rivers State.

He instructed the panel, “Your task is to oversee Rivers State following Mr. President’s emergency proclamation. You must not be partisan or biased.”

Key figures present at the event include the House Leader, Prof Julius Ihonvbere, who will also serve as the Chairman of the Committee, and Ali Isah (PDP, Gombe), the Deputy Chairman. Other members in attendance are Idris Wase (North Central), Aliyu Muktar (North East), Sada Soli (North West), Iduma Igariwey (South East), Shehu Rijau, Wole Oke, Akara hi Amadi, Patrick Umoh, and Isa Anka, among others.

The representative for the South West, James Faleke, was reportedly unable to attend.
