Senate President Godswill Akpabio has publicly endorsed Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno for a second term, mirroring the governor’s earlier endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
On Tuesday, Governor Eno pledged his support for President Tinubu’s second term, stating his belief that Tinubu would serve a full eight years and promising to mobilize support for his re-election.
In response, less than 24 hours later, Senate President Akpabio acknowledged the governor’s gesture and praised him for setting a precedent.

“Sir, for doing that, I am a member of the All Progressives Congress. I am speaking for the elders and to tell you we are also going to support you for a second term,” Akpabio declared, which was met with applause from Governor Eno.
“We will support you in whatever aspiration you have. Yesterday, you broke a record by being the first opposition governor to declare support for a second term bid of Mr Tinubu,” he added.
The Senate President, represented by Saviour Enyiekere, chairperson of the National Assembly Service Commission, made this endorsement in his goodwill message at a public lecture organized by the Faculty of Social Science, University of Uyo, on Tuesday.
Governor Eno, an alumnus of the university who recently earned a doctorate in political science with a specialization in public administration, was the guest lecturer at the event.
He delivered a lecture on the theme “Leading Economic Development in Sub-Nationals of the Nigerian Federation, the Arise Agenda.”
In his goodwill message, Akpabio praised Governor Eno for demonstrating “governance, love, and humility in all aspects.”
