The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a cocaine shipment destined for Saudi Arabia, concealed within 20 religious books. NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi stated that the 500-gram cocaine consignment, divided into 20 parcels and hidden in the spines of the books, was discovered at a courier company in Lagos on Tuesday, April 15th.
The NDLEA’s Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) officers made the discovery during a search of export cargo bound for Saudi Arabia at the logistics firm. On the same day, at another courier company, NDLEA officers intercepted 2.8 kilograms of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, concealed in a carton originating from the United States.
In Kano, NDLEA operatives on patrol along the Bichi-Kano road arrested Muhammad Mohammed, a 22-year-old who supplies illicit substances to bandits. He was apprehended on Sunday, April 13th, while en route to Katsina with 277 ampoules of pentazocine injection taped to his thigh and groin. Also in Kano, 43-year-old Mohammed Abdulrahman Abdulaziz was arrested on the same day in the Research Rimin Kebe area of Nasarawa with 68 blocks of skunk, weighing 30kg.
In Bayelsa state, NDLEA operatives raided a house along Major General Isaiah Alllison Street, Opolo, Yenagoa, on Wednesday, April 16th, recovering 557.2kg of skunk, 5.6kg of methamphetamine, and 29.8 grams of heroin. Four suspects, Sarimiye Suwa Kurtis (46), Roland Prosper (34), Sarimiye Tare Paul (45), and Fidelis Ugbesla (46), were arrested during the raid.
In Lagos, on Thursday, April 17th, 1,100 kilograms of skunk were seized from a delivery van in the Surulere area, and the driver, Ismail Abdullahi, was arrested.
In Kaduna, on Friday, April 18th, NDLEA operatives raided the hideout of 30-year-old Ike Ani in Zaria, recovering 31,950 pills of tramadol 225mg and diazepam.
In Kebbi, on Friday, April 18th, NDLEA operatives on patrol along Bagudo road intercepted a vehicle transporting charcoal from Malabil, Benin Republic, and discovered 97kg of skunk concealed within the charcoal sacks. Three suspects, Abubakar Ibrahim (50), Mustapha Aliyu (32), and Bashar Lawali (28), were arrested in connection with the seizure.
In Anambra state, 48-year-old Okafor Marcel was arrested with 11.5kg of skunk at Abatete.
In Osogbo, Osun state, on Tuesday, April 15th, 27-year-old Ajala Mercy was arrested with 43 litres of skushi, a mixture of black currant, cannabis, and opioids, found in her room.
In Edo state, NDLEA operatives raided two cannabis farms in Egbeta forest, Ovia North East LGA, destroying 3,717.8625kg of cannabis cultivated on 1.487145 hectares and recovering 136.5kg of processed cannabis.
At the Tincan seaport in Lagos, 40-year-old Basorun Usman Kayode, who had been at large for two years in connection with the 2023 seizure of 107kg of Loud imported from Canada, was arrested.
Another suspect, Dauda Yakubu, who distributes illicit drugs within the seaport community, was arrested on Monday, April 14th.
The NDLEA also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) social advocacy activities across the country, including sensitization lectures for students, staff, and traders in various states.
NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa commended the officers involved in the arrests and seizures and praised all commands for their efforts in both drug supply and demand reduction.
