Former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and current governor Abba Kabir Yusuf are reportedly planning to leave the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), according to Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a post shared on X, Ahmad stated, “The APC in Kano is actively preparing to receive Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and members of the NNPP, including Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.”
This claim came on the same day that Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his predecessor Ifeanyi Okowa, and various political appointees and elected officials dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC.

Meanwhile, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje recently declared the NNPP as defunct, claiming its leaders were ready to return to the APC.
Speaking in Paris while inaugurating the party’s France chapter executives, Ganduje said, “The NNPP is dead and near burial. The coffin is ready — only the grave remains to be dug.”
He added that even the NNPP’s national leader would be welcomed back to the APC if he chose to return, saying it would be a homecoming.
The NNPP has recently faced internal leadership struggles, prompting several defections to the APC.
