Northern Governor Speaks On Joining Atiku’s Coalition

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has stated that he will not be joining the opposition leaders’ coalition being organized by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

This was conveyed in a statement released on Saturday in Damaturu by the governor’s spokesperson, Mamman Mohammed.

A widely circulated text message had falsely claimed that Governor Buni and four other APC governors had finalized plans to defect to the opposition PDP and join the coalition in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.

Mohammed dismissed the viral message as unfounded lies, baseless assumptions, and unwarranted imagination that have no connection to reality whatsoever.

He emphasized that the author of the text message has never been close enough to the governor to credibly speculate about his political decisions.

“Buni is no ordinary member of APC; he is not just an APC governor. He is APC in all ramifications, with APC flowing in his veins,” Mohammed asserted.

He highlighted Buni’s significant contributions to the APC as a two-term National Secretary and National Chairman who led the party’s convention committee, making any suggestion of him leaving the party purely speculative.

Mohammed suggested that the author and their sponsors are likely impressed by Governor Buni’s political acumen and simply wish they had someone of his caliber within their ranks.

“It must be wishful thinking,” he concluded.
