E-Money Sends Warning To Nigerians After EFCC Arrest

Businessman and socialite Emeka Okonkwo, widely known as E-Money, has publicly called on Nigerians to stop spraying the Naira or other currencies at events, stressing that the practice is illegal.

In a statement shared on Instagram on Thursday, E-Money highlighted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) stance, reminding the public that throwing or spraying money at celebrations is considered an abuse of currency.

Let’s celebrate responsibly and avoid fines. Respect our currency!” he said.

“If you must give money at a party, make sure you put it in a basket or in a bowl or container in front of the person at the party. Don’t drop any currency on the floor,” E-Money added, warning that ignorance of the law will not be accepted as an excuse.

The statement follows reports that E-Money was recently detained and interrogated by the EFCC regarding alleged misuse of the Naira and U.S. Dollar at public gatherings.

The EFCC has repeatedly cautioned that spraying or damaging currency is a criminal act under Nigerian law.
