An Abuja High Court has nullified the expulsion of Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the House of Representatives member representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency in Imo State, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The court declared the expulsion illegal.
Ugochinyere’s purported suspension was announced by a faction of the PDP in Imo State loyal to Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

However, Justice N. Iheme, presiding over the case, ruled that the expulsion was baseless and unlawful.
The judge affirmed that Ugochinyere remains a PDP member and a National Assembly member under the party’s constitution, emphasizing that only the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP has the authority to discipline a serving National Assembly member.
The court further noted that in this specific instance, the PDP NEC itself denied having suspended or expelled the defendant.
The judgment highlighted that the PDP’s own affidavit supported the claim that only the NEC possesses the power to hear allegations or establish a disciplinary committee against a sitting member of the National Assembly, as stipulated by its Constitution.
