Former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has denied a social media comment attributed to him that criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The purported comment claimed Okorocha stated the APC was “no longer a political party but a party desperate to hijack power at all costs.”
In a statement released yesterday by his media aide, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha accused his detractors of fabricating and spreading these comments.
The statement clarified that since his departure as Governor of Imo State nearly eight years ago, and his subsequent tenure as Senator representing Imo West senatorial district (2019-2023), individuals with a “phobia” of him have continued to target him.

Okorocha firmly insisted that he would not leave the APC, given his role as a founding member.
He maintained, “Okorocha, as one of the founding fathers of APC, would remain committed to its well-being or success. He remains a bona fide member. He didn’t make the statement that was credited to him by those who envy him and his politics.”
He urged the public to disregard the “fake story” and any subsequent similar fabrications, noting that the writers failed to specify where and when he supposedly made such a statement.
Okorocha argued that he would not have made such a “watery or pale statement,” especially concerning a party that has been in federal government since 2015.
The statement recalled Okorocha’s significant role in the APC’s formation, highlighting that he was the only sitting governor from the South East during the merger that created the party.
He took a “political risk” for the APC’s birth, even when others in the South East doubted its success, and was subsequently called “ugly or derogatory names” for his involvement.
Okorocha also noted that he was elected the pioneer chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum due to his dedication to the party.
He concluded by stating that his politics are exemplary and transparent, and he would not engage in “hide and seek.”
