The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to its members considering joining the new opposition coalition, stating that it is closely monitoring their actions and will take “appropriate measures at the right time.”
Addressing journalists following a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting at the party headquarters on Wednesday, acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum emphasized that no other party could offer the same level of accommodation as the PDP.
He suggested that any dalliance with other political groups would be short-lived, predicting that many would soon return to the PDP.

Flanked by other NWC members, Damagum asserted the party’s strength in conflict resolution, stating, “Our leaders have already come together to give us this leadership… This is the only party in the country that has lasted this long. We have mastered the act of conflict resolution. We know our problems and we solve it within ourselves.”
He reiterated that while members are free to explore other options, they would find the PDP to be uniquely accommodating, adding, “If you believe in this party, you should be an ambassador that protects the fortunes that this party has given to the citizens of this country when it was there.”
Damagum further stressed the party’s unity, claiming it is more cohesive than ever before. He confirmed that all contentious issues had been resolved and that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, previously scheduled for July 23rd, 24th, and 25th, would proceed as planned.
He conveyed positive tidings to party members, assuring them that “your party is intact.”
