Ex-President Buhari Hospitalised In London

Incoming reports indicate that former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has been undergoing medical treatment in London since his arrival in April.

According to multiple family sources, an initial routine medical check-up escalated into a full-scale hospital admission after the former president became unwell.

While the exact nature of his illness and the name of the hospital remain undisclosed by family members, Buhari’s long-time spokesperson, Garba Shehu, confirmed the development.

Shehu assured Nigerians that the former president is responding well to treatment, stating,“Following your inquiry, I wish to state as follows: It is true that the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, is unwell. He has been receiving treatment in the UK.4 You would recall he made it known that he was going for his annual medical check-up. He became ill there, but I am happy to announce to you that he is doing well in his recovery while receiving treatment. We pray for his healthy recovery.”

It is noteworthy that the former military Head of State has a history of prolonged medical trips overseas, particularly to London, throughout his two terms in office between 2015 and 2023.

This pattern includes his first medical trip in February 2016 for an undisclosed ailment, a visit in June 2016 for an ear infection, and a 50-day “routine medical check-up” in January 2017.

His longest medical absence occurred in May 2017, when he spent 104 days in London for treatment, which raised significant public concerns about his fitness to govern the country due to his health conditions.
