CAF Appoints Pinnick As Special Adviser

Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick, has been appointed as Special Adviser to the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe.

Motsepe announced the appointment during a live-streamed YouTube press conference on Saturday, welcoming Pinnick back into CAF’s leadership structure.

Expressing his surprise at the widespread affection for Pinnick within CAF, Motsepe remarked, “I did not know Amaju is so loved in CAF.”

In his new advisory role, the 54-year-old Delta State native will attend all CAF executive meetings.

This appointment significantly enhances Pinnick’s profile and serves as a clear acknowledgment of his contributions to African football.

Pinnick, who recently lost his seat on the FIFA executive committee, is returning to CAF, where he previously served as First Vice President under former president Ahmad Ahmad from September 2018 to July 2019.

Pinnick led the NFF as president from 2014 to 2022, securing his first term in September 2014 and a second on September 20, 2018.

He is the third Nigerian to serve on the FIFA council, following Oyo Orok Oyo and Amos Adamu, and currently sits on the Organising Committee for FIFA competitions.
