Former SGF Babachir Lawal Quits APC

Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has officially resigned his membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC).1

His resignation was detailed in a letter he personally signed, dated June 29, 2025, and addressed to the APC chairman of Banshika Ward in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Lawal stated that his decision to leave the party takes immediate effect.

He also hinted at a new political direction, indicating that he would soon disclose his current political affiliation. According to Lawal, this move is part of a larger plan to “join other compatriots in working towards making Nigeria a better living place for all Nigerians.”

Meanwhile, photos of the former SGF, who served during President Muhammadu Buhari’s first term, have surfaced on social media.

These images show him alongside prominent opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senator Binani Ahmed (who was the APC’s governorship candidate in the last Adamawa State elections), and former Senators Ahmed Barata and Abdulazeez Nyako, among others.

These individuals in the viral photos are reportedly part of the emerging Nigerian National Opposition Coalition.
