Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has alleged that a group of political actors is conspiring to remove the president from office before the 2027 general elections.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Onanuga claimed that these individuals, whom he described as “haters of Nigeria’s progress,” are “banding together to overthrow an administration that has been the most focused, most transformative in our history.”
His remarks followed recent developments concerning a political alliance forming under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which aims to challenge Tinubu’s bid for re-election.

Onanuga referenced a 2022 comment by the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, who cautioned voters against believing promises of quick fixes to Nigeria’s challenges.
“Emir Sanusi warned Nigerians what to expect from President Tinubu’s reforms. ‘It’s not going to be easy.’ If anybody tells you it would be easy, don’t vote for him,” Onanuga wrote.
He asserted that the Tinubu administration is implementing reforms designed to reshape the country’s future, implying that opposition to these changes is driving the current political maneuvering.
However, Onanuga’s post did not provide further details or evidence to substantiate the allegation of an overthrow attempt.
As of now, the groups involved in the emerging political coalition have not issued an official response to these claims.
