Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians that uninterrupted electricity supply will be achieved before President Bola Tinubu’s tenure ends in 2027.
Speaking on Saturday at the commissioning of a new substation in Lagos, the minister said the federal government is implementing a “multi-pronged approach” to address challenges in generation, transmission, and distribution.
Adelabu quoted President Tinubu’s administration as recognizing “that energy is not merely a commodity; it is the backbone of economic growth and job creation.”

He added, “Nigerians can be assured of the President’s determination to ensure that citizens enjoy full and uninterrupted electricity supply before he leaves office.”
This statement comes after Tinubu’s 2023 campaign promise for uninterrupted power within four years was questioned by the opposition.
Adelabu clarified that while the four-year timeline may not be fully met, the 2027 goal is still achievable.
The minister highlighted several key achievements under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including “the decentralisation and liberalisation of the power sector through the Electricity Act 2023” and “the attraction of over $2bn in fresh investments to expand electricity access.”
He also pointed to “the stabilisation of the national grid through the Siemens Project” and the “successful mobilisation of N700bn from FAAC for the Presidential Metering Initiative.”
Despite these successes, Adelabu acknowledged ongoing challenges, particularly in distribution, where “loss levels exceed regulatory limits, market remittances fall short, and customer complaints about service disruptions persist.”
He affirmed, “Under my leadership, the Federal Ministry of Power remains fully committed to working with Distribution Companies (DisCos) to address these issues and ensure energy security nationwide.”
He also commended Ikeja Electric, calling them “one of the top-performing DisCos in Nigeria.”
