How I Spend My Security Votes – Adeleke

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has clarified that he does not use his security votes in the traditional sense.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke explained that his administration has no “slush fund which many Nigerians regard as ‘security votes’.”

Instead, all security spending is handled through due process and within the statutory approval procedure, which includes raising memos and following government payment processes.

Adeleke declared, “Osun has no slush fund which many Nigerians regard as ‘security votes’” and maintained, “Our expenditure on security services is undertaken within the confines of the public finance law and regulations.”

The governor listed operational support for security agencies, funding to quell communal crises, and support for the state’s Amotekun security outfit as examples of these expenditures.

He expressed his pride in the policy, stating, “I am proud to declare that the Osun State government under my watch does not operate a slush fund that our media friends call security votes.”

He admitted that he faced resistance but stood by the policy, which was motivated by the financial situation he inherited in November 2022. He believes the state needs every kobo to meet its developmental challenges.

The governor concluded by saying, “Within less than three years, we have good records widely verified by local and national stakeholders.”
