The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has criticized last week’s by-elections, alleging that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted the exercise with irregularities and an excessive military presence.
In a communiqué signed by the forum’s Chairman, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, the PDP governors condemned the elections.

The communiqué stated, “The forum condemns the over-militarisation of last Saturday’s by-elections, characterised by widespread irregularities, vote buying and violence and calls on Nigerians to be more circumspect in protecting their votes.”
The by-elections were held on August 16 to fill vacancies across 16 federal and state constituencies in 12 states.
According to official INEC results, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) won 12 of the contested seats.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) secured two seats in Anambra, while the PDP and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) each won one seat in Oyo and Kano, respectively.
