Three opposition members of the Taraba State House of Assembly have defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The defectors are Umar Adamu (Jalingo 1 State Constituency) and Zakari Sanusi (Ibi Constituency), both from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), as well as Anas Shaibu (Karim 2 Constituency), who was a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The Speaker of the House, John Kizito, read their letters of defection on the floor of the House.

He stated that the defections followed a desire to help Governor Agbu Kefas “turn around the fortunes of the state” and that the move was a result of careful consideration and extensive consultation with their constituents.
In his letter, Anas Shaibu said that aligning with the PDP would help him “better serve the interests of my constituents.”
He also noted that the move would enable him to contribute more effectively to the progress of the state.
Similarly, the letter from Umar Adamu of Jalingo 1 Constituency partly read, “I appreciate the opportunities I had while in the NNPP, but after careful consultations with my good people of Jalingo 1 and due consideration, I believe the PDP’s ideology and vision better align with my values and commitment to our people.”
The article notes that the sentiments in his letter were echoed by the member representing Ibi Constituency.
Out of the 24 members of the Taraba State House of Assembly, the PDP now holds 19 seats, while the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) has three, with two seats belonging to other parties.
