Former president Goodluck Jonathan and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi are among the southern politicians being considered by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as its candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State revealed this on Thursday during a guest appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
He described Jonathan as the “most celebrated politician today” and said he was one of the people they were considering.

Mohammed also stated that Obi would be given the opportunity to run under the PDP if he decided to return to the party.
He said, “But certainly, (former) President Jonathan is one of the candidates we are thinking of, if he joins us and opens his mind to run. And even other people like (former) governor Obi, because if he decides to come to a better platform where there are no encumbrances, he will be given the opportunity too.”
When asked about the party’s relationship with Obi, Mohammed said, “Have you not seen him with me? He’s my brother, my friend.”
He added, “And of course, he’s one of the most celebrated politicians, too. And of course, you see him within the coalition or no coalition, definitely we are not sleeping, only that we don’t make a noise.”
Mohammed also noted that other party members from the South, like Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, are free to contest.
He mentioned that the party is seeking “prominent politicians who would add value to the PDP” and even said he had held a session with former minister Rotimi Amaechi.
When asked about Amaechi’s potential return to the PDP, he said, “Well, he’s free to if he wants to come back.”
