Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has declared that he has the capacity to “end banditry” in the state “within two months” if he is given direct control over security agencies.
Speaking during a live media chat, Governor Lawal said the main problem is that security operatives in Zamfara “take instructions from Abuja” rather than the state government.
He claimed, “I can tell you the whereabouts of every bandit kingpin in Zamfara, even with my phone. I can point to you where they are right now. But I do not control security agencies, and that is the problem.”

He cited an incident in Shinkafi Local Government where security forces “failed to act” because they were “awaiting authorization from Abuja.”
The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) strongly criticized the governor’s comments, accusing him of “harboring bandits” and failing to deliver on his campaign promise.
In a statement, the APC said Lawal’s claims of knowing bandit locations without acting amounted to “complicity.”
The party also alleged that the governor is politicizing insecurity and has failed to properly fund security agencies.
The APC said that the 150 vehicles the governor claimed to have provided were “not as operational vehicles but as mobility cars, without support for fueling and maintenance.”
The opposition challenged him to “review his campaign promises” and focus on “action, not media propaganda.”
