A prominent politician and business mogul from the Tangale-Waja region, Jerry Damara, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in what observers are calling “one of the biggest political realignments” in Gombe South.
Damara officially joined the APC by presenting his membership card to Governor Muhammadu Yahaya at the Government House in Gombe on Thursday.
He explained that his decision was motivated by Governor Yahaya’s “developmental strides and inclusive governance style.”

Damara declared, “Your Excellency, from today, my loyalty to you and your administration is total. The developmental train you are driving is unstoppable, and I refuse to be left behind.”
He added that the decision followed “extensive consultations with political elders and stakeholders” in the region.
Governor Yahaya described the defection as a “special and historic moment” and a “major political breakthrough for our party in Gombe South,” calling Damara a “political heavyweight.”
