Shehu Sani Reacts As Senate Declines Natasha’s Request To Resume Legislative Duties After Completing Six-Month Suspension

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has reacted to the response by the Nigerian Senate to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan concerning her notice of resumption after serving six-month suspension.

The National Assembly Management declined Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s request to resume her “legislative duties” after she completed her “six-month suspension” over alleged misconduct.

According to the National Assembly bureaucracy, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension remains in force pending the outcome of the matter, which is now before the “Court of Appeal” after she appealed a ruling by the “Federal High Court in Abuja” that favored the Senate.

In a letter dated September 4, 2025, from the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly (Ag. CNA), Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Parliament acknowledged Akpoti-Uduaghan’s notification of her intended return to the Senate.

However, the letter stated that her suspension took effect from “March 6, 2025,” and clarified that the matter was still “subjudice,” meaning she could not resume her duties.

The letter read, “The matter, therefore, remains subjudice, and until the judicial process is concluded and the Senate formally reviews the suspension in the light of the court’s pronouncement, no administrative action can be taken by this office to facilitate your resumption.”

It added that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan “will be duly notified of the Senate’s decision on the matter as soon as it is resolved.”

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, was suspended in “March 2025” over “alleged misconduct” following a spat with Senate President Godswill Akpabio regarding a “seating arrangement” during plenary.

Sani took to popular social media platform X on his verified account to react to the response from the Senate to the Kogi lawmaker.

He wrote on X: @ShehuSani If the Pending Court issues has to be resolved before the Kogi Senator resumes, then the resumption has no date.

A user on X @WaliuOwola5994 replied Sani’s response saying @ShehuSani Sir this is the reason why the constitution needs to be reviewed, why did the court take as much to give final decision on cases of that nature….. suspension means the people of that constituency is being deprived……why.

In replying the user, Sani wrote: If the Court wants to leave you in the middle of the River, they will give a ruling that is neither left nor right.

Other users on X also reacted to the former Kaduna Central Senator’s tweet.
