On Friday, the widow of prominent right-wing activist Charlie Kirk pledged to continue her husband’s work after US authorities announced that his “alleged assassin had finally been captured.”
Investigators appeared to be “making slow progress in the hunt for whoever gunned down Donald Trump’s close ally,” until they released security camera images.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox said at a press conference, “We got him,” and identified the suspect as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who was reportedly turned in after being confronted by his father over the pictures.

Erika Kirk mourned the loss of “the perfect father…the perfect husband” in a live video address.
She stated, “The evil-doers responsible for my husband’s assassination have no idea what they have done,” adding that, “The movement my husband built will not die. It won’t. I refuse to let that happen.”
Details about Tyler Robinson began to “trickle out” on Friday, revealing him to be from a Republican family in a conservative city.
Heather McKnight, a former neighbor, told AFP, “Who would have known that this little skinny guy getting in and out of his car would be able to commit such a heinous act?”
A former classmate, Jaida Funk, said, “I always thought he would become a businessman or a CEO someday, rather than what I’m learning about him now,” and described the news as “definitely unexpected.”
Speculation also swirled over markings on unused bullet casings found with the weapon Robinson is believed to have used.
One cartridge was marked with “Hey, fascist! Catch!”, while another featured “Bella ciao,” a World War II-era Italian anti-fascist song that reports said had been “repurposed in niche online circles.”
Other casings were marked with symbols and wording from “online gaming culture.”

FBI Director Kash Patel said the arrest was made at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, 33 hours after the shooting.
Governor Cox credited assistance from the alleged killer’s family, quoting a family friend who said that “On the evening of September 11th, a family member of Tyler Robinson reached out to a family friend, who contacted the Washington County sheriff’s office with information that Robinson had confessed to them or implied that he had committed the incident.”
Kirk’s “hardline views on race, gender, gun ownership, and other hot-button issues” made him a “divisive figure,” although even opponents praised his “willingness to debate.”
As a co-founder of Turning Point USA, Kirk was a “go-to spokesman on conservative television networks.”
He used his audiences on social media to build support for “anti-immigration policies, outspoken Christianity and gun ownership,” and to spread “carefully edited clips of his interactions during debates.”
