Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano “has taken a swipe at his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje,” accusing him of failing to deliver “meaningful development projects” and “depleting the state treasury.”
Speaking at an event on Thursday to distribute job offers to 4,315 teachers, Yusuf challenged the former governor “to point to just four projects completed during his administration.”
Governor Yusuf alleged that Ganduje’s government had “oppressed civil servants and pensioners,” “sold job offers to teachers,” and “looted the state’s resources.”

He said, “They destroyed Kano. They looted your money without meaningful projects. If I expose their atrocities, you will not sleep tonight.
“They oppressed teachers, civil servants and pensioners. If it were during their time, these offers would have been sold to you. But today, nobody has paid a dime.”
The governor also alleged that his administration “inherited an empty treasury,” citing a state account with a negative balance of N9,075 when he took office.
Despite criticism from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), Yusuf maintained that his government has “saved billions of naira through blocked leakages” and is now channeling those funds into development projects.
He said these projects include “recruitment of teachers, road projects, renovation and reconstruction of schools, farming support, empowerment programmes.”
He also listed “Payment of pensions and gratuities, reopening of boarding schools, street lights and many other projects.”
He concluded by reiterating his challenge: “If they can, let them show us just four projects completed in their eight years.”
The governor also announced he had directed the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to recruit another group of teachers and that he would provide soft loans of N100,000 each to 2,000 teachers under the board.
