On Tuesday, the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, led his National Executive Committee members on a condolence visit to the party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed.
The visit was prompted by the death of Dr. Baba-Ahmed’s elder brother, Mouftah Baba-Ahmed.
According to a statement by the LP National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the late Mouftah, who was 64, passed away last week in Madina, Saudi Arabia, after a brief illness.
He was described as a seasoned businessman and distinguished public servant, and was buried in the holy city in accordance with Islamic rites.

During the visit, Abure praised the contributions of the deceased and offered a prayer for the family.
He said, “I know that obviously, the death will leave a big hole in the family, but we are trusting God to bring succour to the family and to provide for the young family he left behind.”
In his response, Baba-Ahmed thanked the Labour Party delegation for their show of solidarity.
He said, “The family is so happy and proud of the party. We are proud that the entire Labour Party came to console us. We thank you for showing empathy with us.”
The condolence visit occurred while the Labour Party is struggling with internal leadership issues.
The Baba-Ahmed family is one of Northern Nigeria’s most prominent, known for its deep roots in business, politics, and education.
