President Bola Tinubu had presented Amupitan’s name to the Council for approval during its meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.

This appointment comes after the departure of Professor Mahmood Yakubu, whose “10-year tenure” concluded in October 2025.

According to Tinubu, Amupitan is a “58-year-old Professor of Law” who hails from Kogi State.

The President also told the Council that Amupitan is the “first person from the North-Central state” to be nominated for the position.
