Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has revealed that he is facing pressure from political stakeholders to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Saturday at an event held in the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Jos, Mutfwang firmly stated that he has no intention of leaving the PDP.
The governor, who is seeking a second term in 2027, emphasized that only God and the electorate who entrusted him with the mandate have the power to decide his political path.
“It is not a lie that they also put pressure on me. But I told them only two people would authorise me to change my party. One is the God of heaven, then the other is you, the people,” he said.

Turning to the audience, he asked: “Have you asked me to go anywhere?” The crowd responded with a resounding “No.”
His comments follow recent developments in which All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Plateau State openly dismissed reports that he was planning to join their party.
During a recent APC stakeholders’ meeting in Jos, members unanimously voted against a proposal for the governor’s possible defection to the party.
The motion, introduced by Festus Fuanter, a former APC Deputy National Secretary, was subjected to a voice vote and was decisively rejected.
“We don’t want anybody coming to our party. You do your thing, and we’ll do ours,” Mr Fuanter said at the meeting.
He further stated that the party remained confident in its own strength ahead of the 2027 elections and did not need external assistance.
Responding to the rejection, Mr. Mutfwang said those resisting the idea of his alleged defection were simply acting out of fear.
“So those who are rejecting me for what I did not look for are doing a useless exercise. The truth is that 60 to 70 per cent of the people in the APC on the Plateau will be glad to have us in their party. They know I will not join them, and that is why they are angry and trying to twist it,” he said.
He said the matter was not one he intended to dwell on, adding: “It’s a story for another day.”
Since the 2023 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has seen three of its governors defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). They include Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, and Peter Mbah of Enugu.
Additionally, Douye Diri of Bayelsa has resigned from the PDP and is reportedly on his way to joining the APC.
