Tinubu Names Former Governors, First Ladies In New Ambassadorial List

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded the names of 32 additional ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation, a list prominently featuring two former state governors and two former state First Ladies as part of a significant political batch of appointments.

The list, which includes 17 non-career (political) ambassadors and 15 career diplomats, was sent to the Senate on Saturday, November 29, 2025, for “expeditious consideration and confirmation.”

The inclusion of the two former governors underscores the administration’s move to reward political allies and incorporate veteran politicians into the nation’s diplomatic corps.

  • Dr. Victor Okezie Ikpeazu (Former Governor of Abia State)

  • Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Former Governor of Enugu State)

Both men were key figures in the group of governors led by the current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who strategically aligned against the presidential candidate of their former party during the 2023 elections.

  • Otunba Femi Pedro: Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State.
