Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, a former member of the National Assembly, has passed away.
He reportedly died following an illness that persisted for several months, according to a statement released on Friday by Festus Ahon, the Chief Press Secretary to the Delta State Governor.
In response to the news, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori expressed profound sadness, describing the death of the former representative of Delta North Senatorial District as a significant loss to Delta State, the Anioma people, and the entire country.

The Governor praised the late senator as a fearless defender of Anioma interests and a distinguished son of the state whose impact on national development would endure.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of my dear friend, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi,” Governor Oborevwori stated.
He added, “I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the people of Anioma nation, members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and all those whose lives he touched.”
Governor Oborevwori further highlighted Nwaoboshi’s significant contributions during his tenure in the Senate, especially his leadership as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs.
He credited the late lawmaker with being a steadfast advocate for the growth of both the state and the Niger Delta region.
The Governor noted that Nwaoboshi’s political ascent was rooted in a strong heritage and a dedication to democratic principles, which led to his serving two terms as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State.
The statement continued, noting that “Senator Nwaoboshi’s political journey and rise to prominence were anchored on a rich political pedigree, selfless service and unwavering commitment to the ideals of democracy, which also saw him serve meritoriously as a two-time Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State.”
Governor Oborevwori concluded by describing the late senator, who served in the National Assembly from 2015 to 2023, as a committed public servant who left behind a legacy defined by courage and loyalty.
