A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian political class regarding the 2027 presidential race.
Appearing on Arise Television on Sunday, January 4, 2026, Pearse cautioned that any attempt to manipulate the upcoming polls would face unprecedented global scrutiny.
Pearse argued that the days of consequence-free electoral malpractice are over, suggesting that external forces—including a more aggressive U.S. foreign policy—could intervene if Nigeria’s democratic integrity is compromised.

“The whole international world is watching. If you rig the election the way you normally do, you may have Trump coming to get your war chambers. Everybody should be careful,” Pearse warned.
The PDP leader emphasized that global institutions are prepared to hold individuals accountable for subverting the will of the people.
He specifically pointed to the International Criminal Court (ICC) as a potential destination for those who oversee fraudulent elections.
“This is not the first time it has happened. The International Criminal Court is there, so be careful what you do with a rigged election in Nigeria,” he said.
Pearse’s comments reflect a growing sentiment among opposition figures that the 2027 cycle will not follow the patterns of the past. He expressed a firm belief that both the international community and the Nigerian electorate have reached a breaking point.
“No, no, no — it will not happen again. 2027 is going to be different,” he insisted.
These warnings come at a time of intense political maneuvering. With President Donald Trump’s recent military actions in Venezuela and his “guns-a-blazing” rhetoric regarding Nigerian security, Pearse’s reference to “war chambers” suggests a fear that electoral chaos could trigger foreign intervention.
As the 2027 general elections draw closer, opposition leaders continue to demand a transparent process, warning that the world is no longer willing to look the other way.
