Security measures have been significantly reinforced at the Kano State Government House as rumors circulate regarding Governor Abba Yusuf’s potential departure from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
On Monday, January 12, 2026, a combined team of Nigeria Police Force and Department of State Services (DSS) operatives was deployed to strategic points around the complex.
Access to the building has become strictly controlled, with security personnel enforcing rigorous identification checks on all visitors.

The increased security presence comes amid an apparent fracture between Governor Yusuf and his political mentor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Kwankwaso, the leader of the NNPP, has voiced his disapproval of any move to join the APC, warning that it could ruin the party’s stability and the Kwankwasiyya movement.
Although Governor Yusuf has maintained that there is no conflict, the disagreement has already led to visible division within the party’s leadership.
In a formal statement, the NNPP confirmed it is tracking the situation and firmly rejects any plan to defect.
Hashim Dungurawa, the NNPP Chairman for Kano State, stated:“We are aware of the developments happening here in Kano State concerning some individuals who intend to defect to the APC. I want to make it clear that the Kano State party, the national party, and our national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, together with other leaders, do not approve of what is happening.”
